Quintessential awkward moment

A lot of people have been asking me what my “platform” for Cogaoke is since I’ve hidden myself under a character and stagename. Beyond the long, funny character that I developed, I really just want a good shot at a trophy of some kind.

The reason for that is that in San Francisco, we had a neighborhood mom in The Richmond District (where I lived) called Jennie. Jennie owned G3, the karaoke bar 9 blocks from my house, which essentially became my karaoke training ground. In the past year, as I decided to leave for New York, it was very difficult and Jennie was there for me all the time. I spent a lot of time in her karaoke bar throughout the year, and she is an incredibly nurturing and sweet soul… and I really miss her.

I’m really just doing this as a tribute to a wonderful lady and I’m going to sing the song that she always had me sing. It’s a really hopeful, happy song that I’m sure everyone knows. If I get a trophy of some kind, it is safe to say that I am going to send the trophy back to San Francisco from Austin with someone to give to Jennie. :)

I have no doubt that she’ll keep it in the bar. Please vote for me. My aim is true!

(The pictures above were taken the night before I left San Francisco by my friend Mikey. I’m not going to post the ones of me crying but obviously, it was quite emotional. Jennie handed me a bottle of Beefeater 24 gin that made it with me to New York. I cracked it open on New Year’s and the very last of it is coming to Austin with me in a flask — a little “Liquid Courage” if you know what I’m sayin’.)
